After spending time dialing in chassis rigidity on an R32, I brought a few cross-platform OEM bracing tricks over to the ER34 GTT.
If you want a sharper, tighter chassis without sacrificing trunk space or dealing with harsh, noisy aftermarket bars, Nissan actually left us all the mounting points we need. Here are 3 stealthy OEM upgrades that make a massive difference in rear-end stiffness:
1. BNR34 GT-R Rear Trans Tunnel / Floor Brace (3-Piece Assembly)
The Issue: The GTT floor pan experiences significant flex toward the rear section because the main chassis rails don't carry continuously past the rear wheel arches.
The Solution: The BNR34 GT-R came with a heavy-duty 3-piece underbody brace (two fixed mounting brackets with a thick center bar) that directly replaces the flimsy stock GTT bar.
Fitment Note: To adapt the OEM GT-R brace to the GTT floor pan, you'll need to dremel/elongate the mounting holes slightly so they line up with the GTT's bolt pattern. Once opened up, it mounts cleanly and leaves plenty of room for upgraded/aftermarket driveshafts (including 3-inch setups).
2. S15 Silvia Rear Trunk Floor Brace
The Issue: Torsional twist behind the rear quarter panels under hard cornering.
The Solution: The rear trunk floor brace from the S15 Silvia can be adapted right behind the GTT's rear quarter panels to stiffen up the back end. Additionally, the R34 GT-R brace is available but due to different trunk height it will not be an easy fit.
Fitment & Hardware: Mounts up using the rear bumper crash beam bar locations. To adapt it to the ER34 chassis, open up/dremel the mounting holes on the brace for proper alignment, and use spacers with longer bolts.
Hardware Tip: You can grab the correct hardware via Nizmopartsplug.
3. R33 / R34 GT-R Rear Trunk & Battery / Tower Support Bracket
The Issue: Lack of structural tie-in between the rear towers and trunk floor, plus limited options for clean battery or wiring mounting.
The Solution: The GT-R rear trunk bracket doubles as a solid chassis reinforcement across the rear towers and a stealthy storage solution. It creates a dedicated space behind the rear wall to tuck away wiring, modules, or even relocate your battery for a clutter-free GT-R look.
Damper / Tower Provisions: This bracket features factory provisions to mount the OEM BNR33/BNR34 rear damper brace between the rear strut mounts. It also provides the mounting points to run the rare Yamaha-tuned Nismo Performance Damper set.
Fitment Note: Pop off the factory plastic blind plugs inside the GTT trunk — the threaded chassis holes are already there! (The R33 GT-R version requires minor trimming).
Pro Tip for the Finish
If you run the combination of the S15 rear trunk floor brace and the rear tower support, grab a trunk carpet/liner that already has pre-cut brace provisions (or source a GT-R style carpet). It allows the braces to pass through cleanly for a 100% factory fit and finish. A friend over at Jordan Fitmint Auto AU was able to make this custom carpet to complete this project.
