R34 GT-R vs. non-GT-R inner tie-rod reference
Based on our fitment findings and reference comparison, the factory R34 non-GT-R two-wheel-drive inner tie rod has a smooth, unthreaded section immediately after the outer tie-rod mounting threads, toward the main shaft. On the GT-R version, the corresponding section is threaded throughout.
Despite this difference in threaded length, our findings indicate that the two versions accept the same outer tie-rod mounting threads. This thread compatibility must not be confused with complete outer tie-rod interchangeability.
Critical fitment distinction: outer tie rod to steering knuckle
The outer tie-rod ball-joint stud taper differs between GT-R and non-GT-R applications. The outer tie rod must have the correct taper for the steering knuckle being used. An outer tie rod threading onto this inner tie rod does not establish that its ball-joint stud will fit or seat correctly in your knuckle.
We have test-mounted this inner tie rod with the R32/S14/R34 outer tie-rod kit we stock. This confirms the threaded connection in that test only; it is not a blanket confirmation of knuckle-taper compatibility across R32, S14, R34 GT-R, or R34 non-GT-R applications.
Before ordering, confirm the inner tie-rod application and select outer tie rods matched to your actual steering knuckles, especially on vehicles with swapped steering or suspension components. Contact us with your chassis and steering setup if you need help checking fitment.
