Nissan R32 Skyline: A Quick Overview
Introduced in 1989, the R32-generation Skyline includes much more than the GT-R. The range includes coupe and sedan models, naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines, and rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive applications. Knowing your exact model is the first step toward finding the right parts.
GTS-t, GTS-4, and GT-R: Know the Difference
- HCR32 GTS-t: A turbocharged 2.0-liter RB20DET-powered, rear-wheel-drive application offered as a coupe or sedan. The HCR32 chassis code alone does not establish that a car is a factory turbo model.
- HNR32 GTS-4: A turbocharged RB20DET-powered four-wheel-drive Skyline, distinct from the GT-R.
- BNR32 GT-R: The twin-turbocharged 2.6-liter RB26DETT-powered GT-R coupe with ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive and a five-speed manual transmission.
- Other R32 models: Naturally aspirated and other engine configurations also exist. Do not assume that every R32 uses an RB20DET or RB26DETT.
These are identification starting points, not a complete fitment chart. Check the full model information and the engine, transmission, drivetrain, brakes, suspension, and bodywork actually fitted, particularly on swapped or modified cars.

Know Your Skyline Before You Order
- Chassis and model: Confirm the full model information rather than relying on badges or an exterior conversion.
- Engine and drivetrain: Match the part to the engine and rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive application fitted to your car.
- Body style and production details: Check coupe versus sedan, production period, trim, and any early/late differences stated in the listing.
- Transmission: Confirm manual or automatic and identify any conversion or replacement gearbox.
- Part number: Compare the listed number with the part being replaced whenever possible.
- What is included: Check whether the listing is for one piece, a pair, or a kit, and whether additional hardware is required.
Tools & Literature: R32 Factory Service Manual
Use the applicable factory service manual for workshop procedures, wiring diagrams, diagnostics, tightening sequences, and torque specifications. Match the manual and any supplements to your exact model and mechanical configuration.
Open the R32 GT-R Factory Service Manual PDF
This is an externally hosted R32 GT-R manual: do not assume its engine, drivetrain, wiring, or other model-specific information applies to a GTS-t, GTS-4, or naturally aspirated R32. External availability and access requirements may change.
Prepare Before Starting a Job
Read the relevant procedure first and identify its required tools, measuring equipment, replacement seals, and any one-time-use fasteners. Use the specified lifting and support points with appropriately rated equipment; never work beneath a car supported only by a jack. If a procedure or specification is unclear, consult a qualified technician rather than guessing.
